Raku is a highly regarded ceramic technique that originated in 16th century Japan. Western potters adopted and popularized this unique technique in the 1950's and put their own spin on it. As seen in the remarkable raku nuggets that span the front of this necklace, the hand built form is still used but by adjusting the heating and cooling temperatures in the technique, the coloration is wonderfully vibrant.
The saturated palate of the ceramic raku beads is highlighted by the transparent blue, green and purple gemstones that are interspersed, rainbow fluorite and quartz. The remaining design elements in the necklace are faceted Czech glass beads in mottled teal green and blue.
The necklace closes at 18.5" with a silver toned, lead-free pewter toggle clasp.
Included in this set are striking amethyst and quartz drop earrings. They fall 1" from sterling silver ear wires.
